Genealogy:  Beyond the basics

  • This class will continue on from Start Right – How to begin tracing your ancestors and will go beyond the basics.  It is recommended that you take the first class or already have some knowledge of genealogy.  You will learn about church records, cemetery and burial records, probate and wills, land records, naturalization records, ship records, and military records.

Genealogy: Myths and Legends

  1. Hi Gail,
My name is Lolita Bradley and I took a genealogy class that you taught at the Round Lake Beach Library maybe in 2011.

I finally decided to get serious about doing my family genealogy and I was wondering if you’re still teaching classes in the area.

    • I haven’t done any in a couple of years. Covid-19 put a stop to it, and I haven’t gotten back to it. If you need help with anything, I’d be happy to help/advise you one-on-one. There are many online resources that give you the basics and beyond. Also many genealogy societies are having their meetings via zoom. They usually have speakers and you can learn a lot that way. McHenry and Lake County genealogy societies do that. Even though they are now having their meetings in person and online, I prefer online because I don’t have to drive there. For me Lake County is a long drive. You don’t have to be a member to attend. I have attended Society meetings all over the country and Canada by Zoom. Contact me if you would like me to help you. You can contact me at, I am amazed that you remembered my class and thanks for contacting me. Gail
